Q&A with The Proper Table.

Q&A with The Proper Table.

Hi, it’s so nice to see you again! Can you believe that it’s already been one month since we opened the doors to our new storefront in Estevan Village?

Hi, it’s so nice to see you again! Can you believe that it’s already been one month since we opened the doors to our new storefront in Estevan Village? We continue to be absolutely blown away by the support we’ve received from this community - thank you so much.

To mark one month of The Proper Table storefront, we asked you on Instagram (if you’re not following us yet, what are you waiting for?) if there were any questions—big or small—you wanted us to answer for you. We sat down with hot coffees in hand and answered them all:

What are your store hours?

OK, we thought we would start with an easy one! Our Holiday store hours are:

Wednesday - Friday: 10am - 5pm
Saturday: 10am - 5pm
Sunday: 11am - 3pm

To stay up to date on store hours, you can always head to leisure-thepropertable.com

What are some of the top brands you carry?

We carry so many incredible brands at the shop. Some of our favorites are Hudson & Oak (the prettiest stoneware), The Collective (glassware, serveware, candles), Indaba (table linens) School of Life (games), North Palm (vases), and Our Dining Table (glass goods). If there are brands you love and think we should carry, let us know

Are you selling the cutlery that you rent?

We currently have beautiful black & gold flatware for sale ($40 per 5 piece set), and will be carrying more styles in the new year!

Do you sell gift cards?

We do. Gift cards for any amount are available for purchase in store.

Do you have barware?

We’re currently waiting on some beautiful shakers and jiggers to arrive, but we have lots of glassware, shot glasses, bottle openers and more available in store. We also have cocktail mixes from Twist of Fate!

How do I elevate my everyday dining experience?

Set the table! Put out some (real) napkins, light some candles, and don’t forget to actually sit down and enjoy your meal. Whether it’s with just your family or you’re entertaining friends, setting a proper table is the golden rule in our homes.

Does the shape of the wine glass really matter?

It does! At the very least, be sure to have white and red glass to pull from, as it really does make a difference. If you find yourself getting more and more into wine, expand your red glass collection to include a burgundy wine glass. The bigger bowl shape allows the fuller bodied wines to open up more.

Is it tacky to mix and match serveware?

No way - we do recommend making sure they’re made of similar material, as this will give a more cohesive look and will help better set the tone of your table.

Any tips and tricks for making charcuterie boards?

Try not to make it too perfect. Start with the cheese, and spread it out around the board, then place the charcuterie down, and fill in the holes with a mix of pickled veg, nuts and dips. Our pro tip? Always be sure to break into the cheese before your guests arrive; people are far more likely to help themselves if it looks like someone already has!

Do you have a favourite playlist for the holidays?

Ah, nothing sets the mood better than a killer playlist! We always recommend having music already playing (not too loud), before guests arrive. For the holidays, Barb loves this playlist on Spotify.

What are your favourite holiday recipes?

Oh, we love this question! Every year at Hanukkah Shara makes Classic Potato Latkes, and it’s always a crowd pleaser! View the recipe she uses here.

That’s all for today’s Q&A, but if you have any other questions for us, please feel free to reach out, or visit us at the shop any time!  And to finish this off, here are some photos of our store!
