It’s our favorite time of year. We’ll take any reason to celebrate, but the fall season always gets us in an especially festive mood. There’s something about the weather getting cooler, the sweaters getting cozier, and the holidays looming that makes us want to gather our loved ones for some autumnal festivities!

Whether you’re celebrating an occasion like Thanksgiving or Halloween, or you’re just looking to host a festive dinner party because it’s Tuesday, here’s your guide to entertaining this fall.

1. Serve delicious food.

A party just isn’t a party without delicious food. Fall entertaining in particular calls for comfort food, and what’s more comforting than homemade pumpkin pie?

We know, we know, Canadian Thanksgiving has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean pumpkin pie season is over! In fact, for Shara, it hasn’t even begun! She’ll be celebrating American Thanksgiving this year, in honour (or should we say honor?) of which she has generously agreed to share her grandma Sylvea Zimmerman’s famous pumpkin pie recipe. We guarantee it will be a crowd pleaser.

Shara’s Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie

2 cups canned pumpkin
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup cream
1 x 8” unbaked pie crust

1. Mix ingredients in the order given.

2. Blend well and pour into unbaked pie crust.

3. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Lower heat to 300 degrees and bake for 35 minutes.

4. Enjoy!

2. Set the mood with music.

Nothing sets the mood better than a killer playlist! Before your guests arrive, be sure to have the music already playing (not too loud), and a drink in hand!

Not sure what to play? Here’s a fall play playlist recommendation from Barb that perfectly captures the essence of autumn—pumpkin spice, cozy fires, and warm cocktails with friends: Feel Good Dinner on Spotify

3. Let us set your table.

Our most important tip for fall entertaining? Make sure you’re enjoying yourself as much as your guests! If you’re looking to take some stress off your plate, The Proper Table can help. We have carefully curated table settings to elevate your table for any occasion. We also offer add-ons including gourmet food (to complement your pumpkin pie!), tasty libations, and beautiful blooms, so you can just sit back and enjoy the party. Everything is dropped off at your door with instructions on how to set it all up. After dinner, skip doing the dishes - just put them back in the box to be picked up the next day.

If you’re looking for some inspiration for your table, here are four fall-inspired settings (that we can help you recreate) to take your celebration to the next level:

1. Nothing says fall like plaid. Take “The BBQ”, and swap out the linen stoneware plates for our black stoneware plates to create this classic fall look.

2. Simply remove the charger plates from “The Modern”, and you’ve got a gorgeous yet relaxed fall setting.

3. We love the colours autumn brings, don’t you? Recreate this colourful spread by swapping out the wood chargers for our rattan chargers in “The Autumn.”

4. Build on the last one by adding a gorgeous runner of greenery and add in our amber goblets.

If any of these settings have you inspired, contact us today to start planning your fall celebration. We can’t wait to hear from you!
