Linen Care

Washing linen before use makes it softer. Hand or machine wash with like colors using mild detergent. Use cold water on a gentle cycle. Washing helps soften the fibers which makes them stronger. If you like a crisper feel, line dry. For a softer touch, tumble dry on low. To reduce wrinkles, remove linen from the dryer while it is barely damp. Iron on warm.

No-No’s for linen:

Avoid fabric softener, dryer sheets, bleach, stain removers or color brighternes. These can lead to discoloration.

To remove stains blot with or soak in warm water.

Dinnerware Care

All our dinnerware is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe up to 450 degrees. Avoid sudden changes in temperature like putting a hot plate on a cold marble counter as this can cause breakage.

To remove minor scratches use Bar Keepers Friend.

Cotton Care

Always wash cotton in cold water to avoid shrinkage. Cotton can stretch when wet and shrink when dry so do reshape after washing or lay flat to dry or smooth wrinkles out with an iron.

No-no’s for Cotton

Washing with hot water. Don’t use bleach or fabric softener as they minimize the fabrics ability to absorb moisture in the future.

Wood Care

Hand wash only. Dry immediately to keep wood from cracking. Oil regularly with food-grade oil like mineral oil or in a pinch use olive oil.

As most of our wood items are handmade, variation in wood grain and shapes is natural.

No-no’s for Wood

Don’t leave wood near fire or hot metals - the wood can burn (duh :)

Marble + Stone Care

Hand wash only. Seal the marble with a good grade mineral oil to help repel stains (this will not make it stain-proof though).

Marble is a natural material and nature has variations in colors and veining. This is normal and makes each piece unique.

No-no’s for Marble

Be careful with acid and color based foods (like beets) which can stain marble.

Stainless Steel Care

Only use non-abrasive cleaners and sponges.

No-no’s for Stainless Steel

Do not use bleach or anything with ammonia to clean.

Enamel Care

Avoid using steel wool or abrasive pads to clean. When dealing with stuck-on food, soak in warm water for 15-20 minutes. Temperature shock may cause cracks in the enamel so always let hot pieces cool before exposing them to water or cold surfaces.

Enameled stainless steel has a glass like coating, so be careful when hitting pieces with metal spoons to avoid chips.

Metal Plating Care

Brass plated goods should be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Hand wash barware. Do not put in the dishwasher or soak. Be gentle when cleaning these items as you do not want to remove the coating during cleaning.

Copper + Brass Care

Patina and oxidation are totally normal and expected with copper and brass. Applying mineral oil once cleaned helps delay oxidation. You can polish your metal pieces (which is different from cleaning). Store bought polish works as does ketchup or lemon juice and dissolved salt in a pinch. Whatever you do, do not scrub.

Candle Care

All Candles: Burn candles away from drafts and flammable materials. Keep in sight, away from children and pets. Trim the wick to 1/4" before each lighting. Discontinue use when 1/4" of wax remains.

Taper Candles: Always place on a heat-safe dish and in a candle holder that is the correct size for your candle. Make sure candles are set on level surfaces, and that tapers are positioned upright and not leaning in their holders.

Scented Candles: For your first burn, let the wax spread out fully by burning it for 2 hours. This helps the candle burn throughout avoiding any tunneling. Trim the wick 1/4" each time the candle is lit. Avoid burning when 1/2" unmelted wax remains. During use, glass may become warm. Allow to cool before handling. Do not burn for more than 3 hours at a time. Keep wick centered and wax free of debris.

You can reuse your candle holder. Wipe out the remaining wax, use a spoon to pry out the wick base, and wash it out with soap and water.
